Mari Furukawa
Mari Furukawa came into the world of dancing in a not so typical way. Several years ago she was involved in a car accident that got her hospitalized. Her x-rays showed that she had abnormal bone structure with her neck and lower back congenitally. The doctor recommended that she builds up her muscle to avoid potential future injuries. Mari started taking resistance training that grew her interest into “Aerobics Dancing”. After a year, she decided to learn to be an instructor. In order to do so, she studied anatomy, biomechanics and of course resistance training. Eventually her interest moved to Latin music and movement. She founded a class and called it “Salsa for fitness”. Thanks to her passion for music, dance and fitness, she has been able to perform in Japan and L.A. As
an AFAA certified group fitness instructor, Mari is currently teaching Zumba, latin aerobics, salsa cardio, step exercise and pilate classes in her native country, Japan.
Mari learned On1 salsa in Japan and now she has taken the initiative to expand her salsa skills by learning On2. She has found a great opportunities in learning more while she is visiting the Washington DC area including becoming a part of Mezzlocutis and Yemashun Dance Team.
